What Are the Requirements of a Board Certified Lawyer?

It is no easy feat to become a Board Certified lawyer in the state of Texas, or in any state for that matter. In order to become Board Certified, a lawyer must have:

  • Been licensed to practice law for a minimum of five years
  • Spent at least three years dedicated to a chosen specialty area
  • Demonstrated experience and involvement in that specialty area
  • Continued attendance at education seminars to keep legal training up to date
  • Received evaluation by fellow lawyers and judges
  • Passed a six-hour written examination
